Mission Statement
The mission of the Homeless Garden Project is to employ and train homeless people
in Santa Cruz County within a community supported organic garden enterprise
. The fundamental goals of our project are:
- To offer a supportive, meaningful work environment that encourages
self-esteem, responsibility, and self-sufficiency.
- To integrate homeless people and our community in the security and beauty of
a productive garden
- To put into practice the principles of economic and ecological
sustainability
At the Homeless Garden Project we work to help people solve their own problems.
Homelessness and lack of job skills and work experience often go hand-in-hand.
The Homeless Garden Project is a job-training and transitional
employment program which enables individuals to make the life changes and
acquire the skills necessary to move in productive directions and lift
themselves out of their homeless or marginalized situation.
Formerly a program of the Citizens Committee for the Homeless, the Homeless
Garden Project incorporated as a non profit in April of 1998.
"We don't need someone to carry us - We need someone who's willing to get us on
our feet."
Michael, Project graduate.
