Valley Resource Center's Child Services

The Health Services Administration has made 25 convertible car seats available for low income families to borrow. These car seats can be used for infants and toddlers. The car seats may be borrowed for up to 6 months with extensions past that time if needed. The cost is $15, $5 of which is refundable if the seat is returned in good condition.

Dental Referral Program

The VRC manages the Children's Volunteer Dental Access Program. All the dental offices in San Lorenzo/Scotts valley (18) are participating. Children are screened through the CHDP Clinic operated by Westside Health Clinic or are referred to a dentist by VRC in emergency situations. The VRC refers the child to the participating dentists on a rotating basis, providing reminders when requested and providing follow up and evaluation.

In-Home Visiting Program

Our Social Outreach worker visits at risk new moms and their babies, who have been referred by Dominican Hospital or CPS. We will assist these moms with transportation, information and support as well as provide parenting classes through the Parents Center.

Link-Up to Learning (LUTL) Program

LUTL is a school linked integrated human service program with San Lorenzo Elementary School funded by a grant from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation. A Family Service Advocate serves as a liaison between the school, the parent, the child and identified needed services. The Advocate works to assure that the family receives appropriate services to improve the family's situation, thereby increasing the child's chances of achieving academically. The grant provides for after-school recreation 3 days per week and peer tutoring 2 days per week, under adult supervision.
